As relational brings, we do not exist or heal alone. We exist embedded in our families, ancestral lineages, and communities. In this workshop, we examine our family stories and the stories of our ancestors that might still live through us. We weed what no longer serves us. We harvest what is ripe. We seed what we want to cultivate. The workshop weaves together creative arts, movement practice, ritual, meditation, and discussions to facilitate our exploration, connection, and transformation.

Ian Wen, MFA is a movement teacher based in New York City. Over thirty years, he has dedicated himself to helping others explore authentic exchange using the body as a field for physical and spiritual exploration. “Letting the body talk” is a way of acknowledging the innate wisdom our bodies contain, expressing what cannot be simply articulated by the conscious, rational mind. Combining different somatic healing modalities, he is devoted to cultivating a wholistic sense of self and self in relationship with the Other. He has taught, devised, and performed extensively, including internationally in Greece, Netherlands, Mexico, and Ukraine. On faculty at Brooklyn College for over 20 years, he teaches performance to both MFA and BFA students. Along with Irina Wen, he is co-founder and co-artistic director of De Novo Dance, and the recipient of multiple grants for creating new works and for collaborating with senior communities.
